Zuclomiphene

Meaning

Zuclomiphene is the cis-isomer of the selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) clomiphene citrate, possessing a longer half-life and more potent estrogenic activity than its trans-isomer, enclomiphene. Clinically, it acts as a weak estrogen agonist and antagonist, primarily utilized for its anti-estrogenic effects on the hypothalamus and pituitary to stimulate gonadotropin release. However, its prolonged half-life and residual estrogenic action are often associated with adverse effects, distinguishing it from the therapeutically active enclomiphene component.
