Zinc and Thyroid

Meaning

Zinc and Thyroid refers to the essential, synergistic relationship between the trace mineral zinc and the function of the thyroid gland, encompassing both hormone synthesis and peripheral action. Zinc is a required cofactor for numerous enzymes involved in the synthesis of Thyroid-Releasing Hormone (TRH) and Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), and it is also crucial for the peripheral conversion of the inactive T4 hormone to the metabolically active T3 hormone. Maintaining adequate zinc status is therefore a necessary prerequisite for optimal thyroid health and metabolic function.
