Zeitgeber Signals

Meaning

Zeitgeber signals, a German term translating literally to “time-givers,” are the external environmental cues that serve to synchronize the body’s internal biological clock, the circadian rhythm, with the 24-hour solar day. The most powerful of these signals is light, but others include meal timing, physical activity, and social interaction. Proper reception and processing of these signals are essential for maintaining hormonal and metabolic alignment, thereby supporting optimal health.
