Zeitgeber Light Therapy

Meaning

Zeitgeber Light Therapy is a specialized chronobiological intervention that uses precisely timed exposure to specific wavelengths and intensities of light to synchronize or phase-shift the body’s master circadian clock, the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). The term Zeitgeber, meaning “time-giver” in German, refers to the external cue that resets the biological clock. This therapy is clinically applied to optimize sleep-wake cycles, enhance mood, and regulate the diurnal rhythm of key hormones, such as cortisol and melatonin.
