Zearalenone

Meaning

Zearalenone is a non-steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin produced by various species of Fusarium fungi, which commonly contaminate cereal crops like maize, wheat, and barley. This chemical acts as a potent endocrine-disrupting chemical, or EDC, upon ingestion by humans and livestock. It poses a significant environmental and dietary risk to hormonal health due to its ability to mimic endogenous estrogen.
