Zang-Fu Organs

Meaning

The central theoretical construct in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that classifies the body’s major internal organs into two complementary groups: the Zang (storage, Yin) organs and the Fu (hollow, Yang) organs. The Zang organs—Heart, Liver, Spleen, Lung, Kidney—are primarily responsible for storing vital substances like Essence (Jing), Blood, and Spirit (Shen), while the Fu organs—Small Intestine, Gall Bladder, Stomach, Large Intestine, Bladder, and Triple Burner—are responsible for transportation and excretion. These organs are understood as functional systems that govern the body’s energetic and physiological balance.
