Xenoestrogens

Meaning

A category of exogenous compounds, primarily synthetic or naturally occurring chemicals, that mimic the action of endogenous estrogen hormones by binding to estrogen receptors in the body. These endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are found in various environmental sources, including plastics, pesticides, and industrial pollutants. Exposure to xenoestrogens can disrupt the delicate balance of the endocrine system, potentially impacting reproductive health and increasing the risk of hormone-sensitive conditions.
