Working Memory Consolidation

Meaning

Working Memory Consolidation describes the essential neurocognitive transition where recently acquired, temporary information held in the prefrontal cortex is actively stabilized and transferred into more enduring memory systems, often involving hippocampal-cortical dialogue. This process is highly dependent on the quality of sleep and the systemic hormonal environment during the rest period following learning. Successful consolidation dictates long-term retention and accurate recall of new data. We are observing the stabilization of transient neural activity.
