Withdrawal Syndrome

Meaning

Withdrawal Syndrome refers to the predictable, often distressing constellation of physical and psychological symptoms that emerge following the abrupt cessation or significant reduction of a substance, medication, or hormone that the body has become physiologically dependent upon. This syndrome reflects the body’s temporary inability to restore homeostatic balance without the external agent, often manifesting as a rebound effect of the system the substance was modulating. It is a critical clinical consideration when discontinuing long-term therapies.
