WHI Timing Hypothesis

Meaning

The WHI Timing Hypothesis posits that the effects of menopausal hormone therapy on cardiovascular outcomes are significantly influenced by the age at which treatment begins and the duration since menopause onset. It suggests that initiating hormone therapy close to menopause, within the first decade, may offer cardiovascular benefits or be neutral, while starting it much later, typically more than ten years post-menopause, may increase cardiovascular risks. This concept highlights a critical window of opportunity for hormone therapy initiation.
