Vulvovaginal Atrophy

Meaning

Vulvovaginal Atrophy (VVA) is a clinical condition characterized by the thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal and lower urinary tract tissues due to a profound decline in estrogenic stimulation, most commonly occurring during the menopausal transition. This chronic, progressive syndrome leads to symptoms such as dryness, irritation, dyspareunia, and urinary frequency, significantly impacting sexual health and quality of life. It is a direct consequence of hypoestrogenism.
