Volume Depletion

Meaning

A clinical state defined by a net loss of total body water and solutes, resulting in a reduction of the volume of the extracellular fluid compartment, including both the plasma and interstitial fluid. Volume Depletion, often clinically termed hypovolemia, can result from insufficient intake or excessive losses due to conditions like hemorrhage, severe diarrhea, or diuretic use. Uncorrected, this condition significantly compromises circulatory stability and alters the concentration and renal clearance of circulating hormones.
