VO2max

Meaning

VO2max, or maximal oxygen consumption, quantifies the highest rate at which an individual’s body can consume and utilize oxygen during maximal effort exercise. This metric represents the peak capacity of the cardiorespiratory system to transport oxygen from the atmosphere to the working muscles and for those muscles to extract and use that oxygen for energy production. It is typically expressed in milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute (mL/kg/min).
