Meaning

The clinical gold standard metric representing the maximal rate at which an individual can consume, transport, and utilize oxygen during incrementally increasing exercise intensity. Expressed in milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute (mL/kg/min), this measurement is the single best physiological predictor of cardiovascular fitness, metabolic health, and all-cause mortality. A higher VO2 Max is directly correlated with enhanced longevity and physical resilience.
