VLDL Remnant Burden

Meaning

VLDL Remnant Burden quantifies the cumulative concentration of partially metabolized, triglyceride-rich very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles and their remnants circulating in the bloodstream. These remnants are highly atherogenic, meaning they are particularly prone to penetrating the arterial wall and initiating the process of atherosclerosis, independent of LDL-C levels. A high burden represents a significant, often overlooked, residual risk factor for cardiovascular events and is frequently associated with insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
