Vitrification

Meaning

A specialized cryopreservation technique used in reproductive medicine, particularly for oocytes and embryos, that involves ultra-rapid cooling to solidify the cellular solution into a glass-like, non-crystalline state. This method prevents the formation of damaging ice crystals, which is the major cause of cell injury during traditional slow-freezing. Vitrification significantly improves the survival rates of delicate reproductive cells.
