Vitamin Malabsorption

Meaning

A pathophysiological state characterized by the inadequate assimilation of essential fat-soluble or water-soluble vitamins from the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract into the systemic circulation. This condition is often a sequela of underlying mucosal damage, chronic inflammatory conditions, or pancreatic enzyme insufficiency. Chronic malabsorption directly compromises endocrine function and cellular health due to a lack of vital cofactors for metabolic processes.
