Vitamin D3

Meaning

Vitamin D3, or Cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble secosteroid that functions as a crucial prohormone in human physiology, synthesized in the skin upon exposure to ultraviolet B radiation or obtained through diet and supplementation. It is fundamentally important for calcium and phosphate homeostasis, but its active form, calcitriol, exerts pleiotropic effects, regulating gene expression in nearly every tissue, including the endocrine glands, immune cells, and reproductive organs. Suboptimal levels are linked to a wide array of chronic health issues.
