Vitamin D and Testosterone

Meaning

Vitamin D and Testosterone refers to the clinically observed correlation and mechanistic interplay between circulating levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and the production and action of the male sex hormone, testosterone. Vitamin D, which is actually a pro-hormone, is recognized as a critical factor in male endocrine health; insufficient levels are frequently associated with lower total and free testosterone concentrations. Adequate Vitamin D status is considered supportive of Leydig cell function and overall hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis integrity. Clinical protocols for testosterone optimization often include the assessment and correction of Vitamin D deficiency.
