Vitamin C

Meaning

Vitamin C, or L-ascorbic acid, is an essential water-soluble micronutrient and a potent antioxidant that the human body cannot synthesize endogenously. It is critical for numerous physiological functions, including the biosynthesis of collagen, L-carnitine, and neurotransmitters. Clinically, it is known for its role in immune function, wound healing, and, significantly in endocrinology, as a necessary cofactor for the optimal function of adrenal steroidogenesis and the maintenance of the vascular endothelium.
