Visual Pathway Input

Meaning

Visual Pathway Input refers to the light-derived information that is transmitted from the eye through the optic nerve to the lateral geniculate nucleus and ultimately to the visual cortex for the purpose of conscious image formation and perception. While distinct from the non-visual system, the light that drives this input also partially activates the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), demonstrating an overlap in the initial capture of photonic information. This input is the foundation of our spatial and environmental awareness.
