Vision System Integration

Meaning

Vision System Integration refers to the efficient communication and processing between the eyes’ photoreceptors and the central nervous system, especially as it pertains to light signals influencing the endocrine system. This integration is crucial because the non-visual pathways, mediated by ipRGCs, directly communicate light information to the SCN to regulate circadian rhythms. Optimal integration ensures that light input accurately phases the body’s internal timing mechanisms. We consider this the primary input for setting the systemic clock.
