Visceral Obesity Cortisol

Meaning

Visceral Obesity Cortisol describes the detrimental, self-perpetuating cycle where chronic elevation of the stress hormone cortisol contributes directly to the accumulation of metabolically active fat around the internal organs (visceral obesity). This specific fat deposition, in turn, amplifies systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, further dysregulating the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and sustaining high cortisol levels. This interplay is a critical driver of cardiometabolic risk and accelerated biological aging.
