Visceral Fat

Meaning

Visceral Fat is the metabolically active adipose tissue stored deep within the abdominal cavity, surrounding vital organs such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines, distinct from subcutaneous fat. This fat depot is highly implicated in endocrine dysfunction, primarily through the chronic release of inflammatory adipokines and free fatty acids. Excessive visceral adiposity is a strong predictor of insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk. We recognize this fat as a key endocrine organ driving systemic inflammation.
