Vertebral Fractures

Meaning

Vertebral fractures, also known as compression fractures, are breaks in the bones of the spine, which are a common and serious manifestation of underlying skeletal fragility, most frequently osteoporosis. These fractures can occur spontaneously or following minimal trauma, leading to acute or chronic back pain, loss of height, and significant postural changes like kyphosis. They represent a major clinical endpoint in the assessment of bone health and fracture risk.
