Vertebral Fracture Risk

Meaning

Vertebral Fracture Risk is the quantifiable likelihood that an individual will sustain a fracture in one or more of the spinal vertebrae, most often due to underlying bone fragility caused by conditions like osteoporosis. These fractures, which can be symptomatic or asymptomatic, represent a significant measure of skeletal health deterioration and are strongly associated with pain, height loss, kyphosis, and increased morbidity and mortality. Assessing this risk is a central component of preventative care in endocrinology and geriatrics.
