Venous Thromboembolism

Meaning

Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a critical clinical event encompassing the formation of a blood clot (thrombus) within a deep vein, most commonly in the lower extremities, which can subsequently dislodge and travel (embolize) to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. This condition represents a significant risk in states of hypercoagulability.
