Venous Thromboembolic Events

Meaning

Venous Thromboembolic Events (VTEs) is a collective clinical term encompassing the formation of a pathological blood clot (thrombus) within a vein, most frequently occurring as a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), which carries the significant risk of dislodging and traveling to the lungs to cause a life-threatening Pulmonary Embolism (PE). In the context of hormonal therapy, certain exogenous hormone preparations, notably oral estrogens, are known to increase a patient’s clinical risk for these serious and potentially fatal circulatory complications.
