VEGFR2-Akt-eNOS Pathway

Meaning

A critical intracellular signaling cascade involving Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR2), the serine/threonine kinase Akt (also known as Protein Kinase B), and endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS), which is paramount for regulating vascular health. Activation of this pathway by VEGF binding to VEGFR2 leads to the phosphorylation and activation of Akt, which in turn phosphorylates and activates eNOS. The final product, Nitric Oxide (NO), is a potent vasodilator and anti-atherogenic molecule.
