VEGF Receptor 2

Meaning

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Receptor 2 (VEGFR2), a high-affinity transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor that is primarily expressed on the surface of endothelial cells, which line the interior of blood vessels. It is the principal receptor responsible for mediating the powerful pro-angiogenic signals of VEGF, driving the proliferation, migration, and survival of endothelial cells, which is essential for the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis). This receptor is crucial for wound healing and tissue perfusion.
