Vasomotor Responsiveness

Meaning

Vasomotor responsiveness is the functional capacity of blood vessels, specifically the arterioles and arteries, to rapidly and appropriately change their diameter in response to neural, hormonal, or local metabolic stimuli. High responsiveness indicates a healthy, flexible endothelium and vascular smooth muscle, essential for regulating blood pressure and efficiently matching blood flow to local tissue demands. Impaired responsiveness is a key functional feature of early vascular dysfunction.
