Vascular-Mediated Hypogonadism

Meaning

Vascular-Mediated Hypogonadism describes a form of reduced gonadal function—specifically impaired testosterone or estrogen production—that is primarily caused by compromised blood flow and structural damage to the vasculature supplying the testes or ovaries. Chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and severe dyslipidemia lead to endothelial dysfunction and microvascular disease, which restricts the delivery of necessary trophic hormones and oxygen to the steroidogenic cells. This mechanism represents a crucial link between cardiometabolic health and reproductive endocrine function.
