Vascular Matrix Remodeling

Meaning

Vascular matrix remodeling is the dynamic biological process involving the synthesis, degradation, and reorganization of the extracellular matrix components, primarily collagen and elastin, within the arterial wall. This continuous remodeling dictates the structural properties of blood vessels, such as their elasticity and thickness. Adverse remodeling, characterized by excessive collagen deposition and elastin degradation, leads directly to arterial stiffness and hypertension.
