Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction

Meaning

Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction refers to a pathological state where the endothelium, the single layer of cells lining the inner surface of blood vessels, loses its normal functional properties. This condition is characterized by an impaired ability to regulate vascular tone, promote anticoagulant activity, and maintain a healthy inflammatory balance. The dysfunction signifies a shift from a protective, anti-atherogenic state to one that promotes vasoconstriction, pro-thrombotic activity, and inflammatory responses within the vessel wall.
