Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction

Meaning

Vascular Endothelial Dysfunction is a pathological state characterized by the impaired function of the endothelium, the single layer of cells lining the interior surface of blood vessels, which leads to an imbalance between vasoconstrictors and vasodilators. This dysfunction is an early, pivotal event in the development of atherosclerosis and is a hallmark of many cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. Hormonal imbalances, such as estrogen deficiency or insulin resistance, are major contributors to this impairment.
