Vascular Elasticity

Meaning

Vascular elasticity is a critical physiological measure defining the ability of the walls of the arteries and blood vessels to stretch and recoil in response to changes in blood pressure during the cardiac cycle. High elasticity indicates healthy, flexible vessels that can efficiently manage blood flow and maintain optimal systemic blood pressure. A reduction in this elasticity, often termed arterial stiffness, is a hallmark of cardiovascular aging and a significant predictor of adverse cardiac events. Maintaining youthful vascular elasticity is essential for long-term cardiovascular and cognitive health.
