Vascular Dysfunction

Meaning

An impairment in the normal physiological function of the blood vessels, particularly the endothelium, which is the inner lining of the arteries. This dysfunction is characterized by a reduced ability of the blood vessels to properly dilate (vasodilation) and regulate blood flow, representing an early and critical step in the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. It is often exacerbated by hormonal imbalances.
