Vascular Cells

Meaning

The collective term for the diverse cell populations that constitute the structure and regulate the function of blood vessels, including endothelial cells lining the lumen, smooth muscle cells forming the vessel wall, and pericytes providing structural support. These cells are central to maintaining vascular tone, regulating blood flow, and mediating the exchange of nutrients and hormones between the blood and surrounding tissues. Their health is paramount for cardiovascular and metabolic function.
