Uremic Sarcopenia

Meaning

Uremic Sarcopenia is a specific form of progressive skeletal muscle wasting, weakness, and functional decline that occurs in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This condition is driven by the toxic metabolic environment created by uremia, distinct from simple age-related sarcopenia. It significantly compromises quality of life and is a major predictor of increased morbidity and mortality in the renal patient population.
