Tyrosine Hydroxylase Cofactor

Meaning

Tyrosine Hydroxylase Cofactor refers to the essential non-protein molecules, primarily Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), that are required for the proper catalytic function of the enzyme Tyrosine Hydroxylase (TH). Tyrosine Hydroxylase is the rate-limiting enzyme in the synthesis pathway of catecholamine neurotransmitters, including dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. Adequate availability of this cofactor is therefore crucial for maintaining neurochemical balance, cognitive drive, and adrenal stress response integrity.
