Type 1 Diabetes

Meaning

Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune endocrine disorder characterized by the absolute deficiency of insulin production resulting from the immune-mediated destruction of the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans. This lack of insulin necessitates lifelong exogenous insulin replacement therapy to regulate blood glucose levels and prevent acute metabolic complications. It is a critical condition requiring rigorous glycemic management and patient education.
