Tumor Markers

Meaning

Tumor markers are biochemical substances, often proteins, that are produced by cancer cells or by the body in response to the presence of cancer or certain benign conditions. These markers can be detected in blood, urine, or tissue and are clinically utilized to aid in the diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring of treatment response, and surveillance for recurrence of specific malignancies. They are a tool for non-invasive clinical insight into disease activity.
