TSH Signaling

Meaning

TSH Signaling describes the critical endocrine communication cascade initiated when Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), a glycoprotein hormone released from the anterior pituitary, binds to its specific receptor on the surface of thyroid follicular cells. This signaling is the principal regulatory mechanism controlling the synthesis, storage, and secretion of the metabolically active thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Proper TSH signaling is foundational to maintaining systemic metabolic rate and energy homeostasis.
