TSH Resistance

Meaning

TSH Resistance, or resistance to Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone, is a rare clinical condition characterized by the inability of the thyroid gland to respond appropriately to the pituitary’s TSH signal, despite the hormone being secreted at normal or elevated levels. This defect leads to primary hypothyroidism, where the thyroid gland fails to produce adequate amounts of the crucial thyroid hormones, T3 and T4. It is a critical example of an endocrine signaling failure at the receptor or post-receptor level, necessitating a differential diagnostic approach from more common forms of hypothyroidism.
