TSH Receptor

Meaning

The TSH Receptor, or Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone Receptor, is a crucial cell surface glycoprotein located primarily on the follicular cells of the thyroid gland. This receptor is the binding site for TSH, a pituitary hormone, and its activation is the primary physiological signal for the thyroid gland to synthesize and release thyroid hormones, T4 and T3. Clinical understanding of this receptor is paramount, as it is the central target in autoimmune thyroid diseases like Graves’ disease.
