TSH Osteoprotection

Meaning

TSH osteoprotection is the physiological phenomenon where thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) exerts a direct, protective effect on bone tissue, independent of its primary role in stimulating thyroid hormone production. This action is critical for maintaining skeletal integrity, as adequate TSH levels help to suppress bone resorption. Clinical evidence supports that even a slight suppression of TSH, such as in subclinical hyperthyroidism, can increase the risk of bone loss and fractures.
