TSH Monitoring

Meaning

TSH Monitoring is the clinical practice of regularly measuring the serum concentration of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) as the primary biochemical indicator for assessing the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. TSH, secreted by the pituitary gland, directly regulates the production and release of thyroid hormones, Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). This monitoring is crucial for diagnosing and managing conditions like hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, ensuring patients are maintained within a specific therapeutic reference range.
