TSH Levels

Meaning

TSH Levels refer to the measured concentration of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), also known as thyrotropin, in the circulating blood. TSH is a glycoprotein hormone synthesized and released by the anterior pituitary gland, whose primary physiological role is to stimulate the thyroid gland to produce and release thyroxine ($text{T}_4$) and triiodothyronine ($text{T}_3$). Clinically, TSH levels serve as the single most sensitive and specific blood biomarker for assessing the functional status of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis.
