TSH Fluctuation

Meaning

TSH Fluctuation describes the dynamic, often subtle, variations in the serum concentration of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH), a pituitary hormone that governs thyroid gland activity, over short periods or in response to physiological stressors. While TSH levels are generally tightly controlled, these fluctuations can be influenced by the time of day, acute illness, medication timing, or changes in the set point of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. Clinically, understanding the physiological range of these fluctuations is essential to accurately diagnose and manage thyroid disorders, differentiating between a pathological state and a normal homeostatic adjustment.
