TRT Withdrawal

Meaning

TRT withdrawal is the clinical and physiological syndrome that occurs when a patient abruptly discontinues Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) after a period of exogenous testosterone administration. The exogenous testosterone suppresses the body’s natural production of testosterone by inhibiting the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Withdrawal symptoms are a direct result of the body’s temporary inability to restart sufficient endogenous production, leading to transient hypogonadism. Symptoms typically include profound fatigue, mood disturbance, loss of libido, and muscle mass loss. A structured, clinically managed cessation protocol is often required.
